About Cyprus
Cyprus is located in the Eastern end of the Mediterranean Sea, with the African coast of Egypt only 380 km away. Nicosia has been the capital of Cyprus from century X and is seized to the north by mountains of Kirenia, and the top of Pentadaktilos (the top of the five fingers), called thus by its particular form. Traditional Nicosia is a small city where everything is so close that it is possible to be crossed on foot completely.
The streets are narrow and in them are some old churches and buildings. It emphasizes the old archbishopric Museum of Popular Art and the building of the Museum of Byzantine Art that has an interesting collection of icons.
Unfortunately, Cyprus territory is divided: ever since the island was divided in two after the occupation of Turkey.
With a small effort it is possible to escape to the hordes of tourists and to submerge in a culture that reminds of Europe, Near East and nine thousand years of constant invasions. The castles of the crossed ones rise next to centennial vineyards, cultures of citruses surround monasteries adorned with fresh and the feet toasted to the sun cross grounds decorated with Roman mosaics.
